Mother's Reprimand

Why is it that after a bad morning that ends with arguing with my daughter that I just have to come across this quote online:

Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you. ~Robert Fulghum

Do I really need that rubbed in, especially after she stops off saying, "Don't ever talk to me like that again or I'll put you in your room!!"

Sigh....

She then stomped to the table and told Sam, "You have a bad mommy!"

Yes, this morning, she certainly does! If only I knew my moodiness was going to end earlier than nine months from now. . . .

Friend's Etsy

A girlfriend of mine from Idaho (now in Denver) just opened up a store on Etsy with some cute stuff. This is a picture of her daughter that I stole from her site. Darling, huh!! (Oh, yeah, and the skirt is pretty darn cute, too, isn't it?!)

Great Expectations

Just read an article about Project Bright Idea, which seeks to teach teachers to expect all their students to be gifted. When teachers do so, more students respond and perform better. Huh.....what a concept.....(DUH.) :) Glad they're spreading the news, though!

Delivered from Distraction

Delivered from Distraction: Getting the Most out of Life with Attention Deficit DisorderDelivered from Distraction: Getting the Most out of Life with Attention Deficit Disorder by Edward M. Hallowell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So thrilled to finally have this book. (WHAT! It was published six years ago! Why didn't I know about it sooner! Oh, yeah, I guess I did see it last year as an Amazon suggestion when I was checking out ADD books. Too bad I only thought, "Ha, great title" and didn't continue contemplating it long enough to make the connection between it and the other classic ADD book, Driven to Distraction, sitting on my nightstand...Sheesh. I even thought, after finishing that book, "But, wait! A few pages is all you're going to give on what to do to survive ADD?! Where's the rest!?!" As I said before, I am THRILLED to finally have this book!!!)

This is ADD expert Edward M. Hallowell's sequel to Driven to Distraction. Chapters are quick and engaging, covering a wide variety of ADD-impacted areas in life: pretty much everything from why families affected by ADD are so explosive (and how to get them on the mend) to the genetics of ADD (and that tv could very well trigger those ADD genes in young children)........to how omega 3s just might be a major component to ADD treatment.....even to topics that conservative me wouldn't exactly discuss in public but would encourage others to read for themselves. For those with ADD who don't read, there's even a chapter--just one little chapter--written especially for you. :) Go to!

So far, great read!!!

Sigh....

It's started early this year.....

AIR QUALITY ALERT
RELAYED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH NC
811 AM EDT TUE JUN 7 2011
..AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND NATURAL RESOURCES
IN RALEIGH NC HAS ISSUED A CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ACTION DAY FOR
GROUND LEVEL OZONE...IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

Usually we don't start getting code orange air days until mid-July or August, and we've had them nearly every day since May 31st.....No, actually, maybe we did have one prior year, of our four years here, that started up in June......but still, it's sad to be cooped up. I mean, we're far enough away from Raleigh that you'd think we'd be okay, but when the air here takes on that orange-ish, hazy look to it (yes, aroun), I'd rather just trust that the warning extends our way.

I'm grateful we got out and enjoyed the spring while it lasted!!!
